Appealing A Violation or Vehicle Impoundment

Violation Appeals Form

The Parking Appeals Committee was established by the university to provide the violator an avenue of appeal when requested.

There must be "substantial and valid evidence" that the parking violation was not committed, or you have substantial and valid evidence that it occurred due to circumstances beyond your control. Parking for a short duration, or the lack of space in a particular lot are not valid excuses for violating parking regulations and will not be considered as a valid basis for appeal.

You will need to complete an appeals form and have it filed at the UNL Parking and Transit Services Office by the close of business on the 14th calendar day after the date the citation was issued or the vehicle was impounded. Appeals requested 15 or more calendar days after the date of the citation issuance or vehicle impoundment will not be accepted.

In addition to the appeals form available at the Parking & Transit Services Office, a letter may alternatively be sent specifying that it be used as an appeal. Appeal letters may be sent via regular mail, or through the web site. Please include the citation number on all correspondence.

A hearing date will be arranged with a UNL Parking Appeals Committee. The Appeals Committees may uphold, dismiss, or change the violation. The committees are not empowered to reduce the penalty rate for violations. Any violation or impoundment paid prior to a committee hearing will be refunded though UNL Parking and Transit Services should the violation be dismissed or changed or the impoundment appeal granted. For your benefit you should attend the appeals hearing. If you are unable to attend the hearing, you will need to indicate so on the appeals for or notify Parking and Transit Services prior to 12:00 noon on the hearing date; otherwise the Appeals Committee will automatically deny your request.

You may file a written request with UNL Parking and Transit Services for a hearing before the Parking Advisory Committee at it regular monthly meeting only for questions of "due process".The request must be filed within 14 calendar days after the Parking Appeals Committee hearing.

All penalties must be paid within 14 calendar days following the decision date of the appeals committee process. Failure to do so may result in the impoundment of the vehicle.
