Faculty/Staff Parking Permit Purchase Guide

Faculty and staff can purchase a parking permit online. New permit purchase must occur when first parking on campus as an employee. With the campus License Plate Recognition System, your vehicle license plate serves as your parking permit identification. Permits for reserved lots and garages depend on availability. Cost may be prorated to reflect purchase date and expiration date. Prorated cost appears at checkout. If you have questions, call Parking and Transit Services at 402-472-1800.

Step 1: Gather Your Documents

To purchase a permit, be prepared to provide the following information:

  • NCard
  • Vehicle license plate number
  • Vehicle make and model
  • Vehicle year
  • Vehicle Color
  • Provide the same information for any vehicle that could be used with this permit

Reserved Permits

Note: Reserved faculty/staff permit holders are assigned to A parking lots when visiting East Campus. F10 and SA permits are valid in any parking lot.

The following guidelines will be used to assign reserved parking spaces in the F10 and F12 lots.

  • Each Chancellor/Vice Chancellor has been allocated a number of spaces in the F10 and F12 parking lots and is responsible for managing his/her own allocation of space. The methodology for allocating these spaces may vary from one Vice Chancellor to another.
  • Faculty and staff parking in these lots will pay the current reserved parking spot rate.
  • Individuals wishing to park in the F10 or F12 parking lots must contact their respective Vice Chancellor. Please note, it is up to the individual Vice Chancellor's discretion on how these spaces are allocated.
  • The Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance's Office will maintain an annual listing of the allocation and will distribute it to the Chancellor/Vice Chancellor's in May of each year so if there are changes to be made, it can be accomplished just prior to the annual parking permit sale period.

Additional Permit Information

Parking facilities users must agree to and be familiar with their use agreements and regulations upon purchasing a parking permit or using a UNL-controlled parking facility.

Non-reserved parking permits are based on availability and do not guarantee a parking space. The Additional Permit Information page lists more information regarding proper permit usage and display, and how to replace or change a permit.

Cancellations

Permits ordered online that are not mailed must be picked up within 30 days of the permit's effective date or purchase date, whichever is later. If it is not picked up, the permit will be voided; you will be charged for this time.

Requests for permit cancellation can be made by email or U.S. mail. If the actual permit has been processed and mailed, it must be returned to Parking and Transit Services for cancellation and refund/stop payroll deduction processing.

Refunds

To cancel a campus parking permit to stop further payment or request a refund:

Send an email from your official UNL email account to Parking and Transit Services unlpts@unl.edu.

State that you want to cancel the permit immediately and send.

For Virtual permits, this completes the process.

For permits with an actual display permit (garage hang tag or Event Sticker):

  1. Write the official email request
  2. Provide evidence of destruction of the permit. Take a picture of the permit cut in half, with the permit number clearly showing. Attach the picture to the email and send.
  3. OR: Bring or mail the permit to Parking and Transit Services, 625 Stadium Drive, Suite A, Lincoln, NE 68588-0161.
  4. Refund amount for a fully paid permit equals the cost of the permit, minus the monthly fees since purchase and any unpaid citations.
  5. A check for the refund amount will be mailed within 6 weeks.
  6. To stop a payroll deduction, return the issued permit to the Parking and Transit Services office. The unpaid balance will represent your refund.

University Parking and Transit Services reserves the right to change or temporarily suspend existing policies due to unforeseen situations or events.

Restriction on Use of UNL & University or Foundation Funds for Purchase of Parking Permits

No campus department may use state, revolving, grant, contract, or other university funds or University of Nebraska Foundation funds to pay for faculty/staff or student parking permits. Campus departments may purchase parking permits for special events, research participants, departmental vendors and visitors.
